Severe case of cabin fever. This has been the worst, in a while Winter since I can't remember. Not terrifically steady on my feet, I don't dare risk ice.
Have been listening to the vocal jazz on Yahoo music- I don't come by here often enough.
"Most Americans draw their identities from the things they buy, while the French draw theirs from the jobs they do. What we think of as "French rudeness" and what they think of as "American arrogance" arise from this difference"

Paris to the Moon.
I am savoring this book of essays about an American living in Paris in 1995. There is a difference between visiting another place and living there. My mid-American sensibilities were happily rocked by the comparative openness of the Venice California gay life (1963) even before Stonewall. It seemed as if I had died and gone to heaven. I had been 'just visiting", I might not have noticed.
Which reminds me of an Charles Pierce bon mot, "I'd rather be black than gay because when you're black you don't have to tell your mother."
Enough.
