Abilene Zoo: Part Three (Pictures)

The Abilene Zoo's reptile house was pretty good. They had a number of serpents I hadn't seen before and it was great fun trying to spot these guys.

King Cobra:

This was a "small" one at barely 10 feet long, though he was about as thick as my upper arm. These guys get up to 18 feet long. Crazy!

A pair of Broad-banded Copperheads:

Timber Rattlesnake (I think these guys are just gorgeous) and the above pair of Copperheads again:

Jameson's mamba:

A Terciopelo (or Fer-de-Lance)--first time I've ever gotten to see one of these guys. Just stunningly beautiful. And it looked so soft (even my Mom commented on that):

And there ya have it. Not a whole lot of photos. I didn't care for how the giraffe, zebra, lion, etc photos turned out, so they weren't included.

To hear the sound of the wolf is to experience a singularly moving sensual experience of wilderness. Sound of unreachable quality, seeming weird and inhuman. But not unearthly.
