Astilbe comes in beautiful colors and it likes shade.
I love the japanese painted ferms. There's a new one called autumn.
Lots of woodland flowers will work but their blooms are small.
I lined the pathway to my back door with hostas a couple of
years ago. I also planted monarda and a butterfly bush so I can
sit in the backyard and watch the show. I had to move most of my
roses there as well. But the two shrub roses are doing well at
the south side and kept blooming til nov. until a heavy frost and
one of the goats "trimmed" it for me.
I had wanted to take classes and be a master gardener when I was
younger. Maybe someday.
