Hi Julie,
Nice to meet you, as well. I haven't checked the map, but I think
McAllen, Texas is close to the Gulf. Allen is north of Dallas.
Probably 400 miles between the two.
Good B&W photos draw my interest more that color. Maybe it's because
I'm not dazzled by so much color? Maybe it's my age. I think the
accumulation of years make us more aware of smaller things.
When my mother stopped driving and relied on Barb and I for her
transporation she often startled me with the things she saw. I must
have asked myself a thousand times why I didn't notice these things.
I would like to think some of her traits rubbed off, but I'm sure if
she were here she would be startling me again with her comments.
The photo is simple, yet there're too many half tones to count. If
you've seen the photo you may have already realized that the
direction of travel for the locomotive is facing the phtographer.
It's probable two engines that will provide additional power to help
a train over a mountain, such as Soldier's Summit in Utah. The town
at the foot of this mountain is home to several such locomotives and
keeping them serviced and ready to roll is the reason that Helper,
Utah exists.
