Hi all,
Just got back from a pre-army trip to Italy with my daughter. What an
amazingly beautiful country.
This prompt is timely, as my one and only starts packing up for her
mandatory army service (all kids here go for 2-3 years after high
school). My wishes are focused:
--that when times get tough for her in the army, she remembers the
beauty and majesty and strength of the David. And this image can help
her to find that same beauty and majesty and strength within herself.
And that she is serving in the same army as David did, and feel proud.
--that when she is tired and annoyed by her commanding officers and
bunkmates, and the crowding and physical and mental drain, she
remembers home, family cameos with me and her dad and our dog, the
peacefulness of the desert and mountains that surround us, and realize
she is just a call away from family and friends. And realize that she
can carry this with her always. And that when she becomes an officer,
she remembers those annoying moments and treat newbies with kindness.
--that she use her amazing sense of humour and perspective and her
ability to talk to people, and realize that these are really the most
important tools and skills that she will need throughout her service.
--that during this remaining week, when those moments of fear and
anxiety occur to her as she counts down the days, that she somehow
replace the "dark" feelings with the light of excitement over the
adventures she will encounter, the belief in herself that no matter
what she pursues, she is capable and can overcome.
--that she understand that no matter how she performs and what she
accomplishes during her service, she is not defined or valued by only
one experience in life, but by her character and values and beliefs;
and that any failure is really relative and passing, a mere stumble on
the pebbled road she is walking.
And the fulfillment for all these wishes--that she be safe, that she
continue to find those that are worth getting to know, and just
"sufficing" with those who have lost their way; that she be happy with
the way she manages things, and remembers that asking for help and
advice is a strength.
