A question!!! A FULL SENTENCE question! Not prompted! Completely
spontaneous! Clearly articulated! He sounded so NORMAL. I
nearly dropped the knife I was holding.

The "conversation" we had this morning. He doesn't like his
teachers at the moment and doesn't want to go to school so getting
him ready in the morning had been hellish. I thought it was
going to be one of those mornings again when I came in to wake
them up. Alex jumped out of bed, cried and said,
"Kara... Alyssa (his teachers)... NO!"
"Alex, it's time to go to school."
He pointed back at his bed, "Sleeping!"
"No more sleep 'till tonight. It's Friday, Alex... one more day
of school then the weekend. And grandma and grandpa are coming."
He pouted but started to get his pajamas off, "Change."
Downstairs I asked him if he wanted bacon or cereal.
"Bacon."
"Do you want something to drink?"
"Drink water."
When he finished his bacon I asked, "Do you want anything else?"
"Cereal."
"Which kind?"
"Circle cereal (they look like honey nut Cheerios but they're
gluten free)."
"Do you want milk (soy) with that?"
"Yes."
He asked for a second bowl, "More cereal, milk."
And when he had enough he pushed the bowl away, "No more."
Alex was totally connected and I didn't have to repeat a single
thing or wait long for him to answer.

His new medication seems to be working! *knock on wood*
He's so much calmer, compliant but NOT spacey. Lots
of eye contact and more language in the past couple of hours than
we'd seen in days.

I was extremely worried about putting him on this medication.
We'd held off as long as we could from turning to drugs
for Alex but his aggression was getting totally out of hand.
Dh was downright alarmed since it's normally prescribed for
schizophrenia and bipolar manic disorder (much worse than
mine) but our doc assured him that it was a very tiny dose
and they'd seen it work well for other autistic children in
their office with minimal to no (visible?) side effects.

I know I shouldn't be counting chickens before they've hatched
but I'm just so happy that it seems some serenity has come
back to the household and Alex doesn't look/act like he's
in pain or coming out of his skin like in the past few weeks.
Now just hoping for a favorable report from his teachers
at school!
