No offense taken. I agree with alot of what you have said here. Some of the parents who were also angry (okay, a bit peeved) about no school that day were teachers. So yeah, i agree and the Superintendant (for the most part this one is 5 short of a 6 pack) is the one getting most of the blame for the 'day off'. It was all in the middle of the state testing too. So yeah..i imagine there were quite a bit of teachers ticked. They stress out over this testing bit as much as the students do i would imagine and just want to get it over with. I tend to get diarrhea mouth/fingers and say/type things like "the super.. and/or teachers wanted a 3 day weekend" when in fact, i'm sure the teachers were all as miffed as everyone else was. Then again, maybe it was just me who was miffed. But anyways..i meant no offense to any teachers. They are so important, have a damn hard job, put up with ALOT from students (my oldest is one who tends to dish out quite a bit) and ... i personally feel they don't get paid near enough. Moving on..
Nope, we're not near Taos. We're on the other side of the state. Right next (well, okay not *right next to, but close enough) to the Tx border. Never have visited there myself either. Would love to visit. Along with Truth or Consequences (just cause of the name..hehe) and i've never been to Santa Fe but would love to visit. I have been to Carlsbad and the Caverns but not since i've lived here. It was when i was a lil bitty thing and it was an experience! LOL
Yep it snows in NM. I never thought or knew it snowed in NM either but..yep! Every winter. I remember last winter i guess it was we actually had a foot here (SE NM). That's rare..at least for me it is. It's gotten up to 6 inches while i've lived here but never more than that. We actually (me and the boys) went around the neighborhood and helped dig out cars! I've only seen that much snow on TV but never in real life. I was like a kid I was so excited!! It was terrible. *Laughs* It (my excitement) also lasted about 2 days, then i was tired of it. *Giggles* It's very pretty when it snows. Well, for me, it's pretty especially if it's untouched and at night. It sparkles and.. ooh! Especially when it's a full moon. Wow. Here you can start expecting snow from late October to .. well, one year it snowed as late as April. It was on Easter as a matter of fact. Who'da thunk it? Snow in the desert. Heh..

No offense to the poster personally, I know it's just chat, but I just get all charged up when I hear (read) people talking about how teachers want more days off. In the first place, I've never heard of a situation where teachers have any say about the annual schedule, and certainly not a sudden school closure. Those decisions are usually made by district "suits" and the school board. Most teachers I know would choose to work more days in a year. We could use the money and would like to not have to hunt for summer jobs. (remember, we don't get paid at all for all those days of "vacation") Plus, the kids would learn more. We hate all those Mondays off -- although nice on that Monday (and Sunday evening, lol ) they tend to do something to the kids that messes up the rest of the week. There's a giant gap between teachers and the people who decide eduational matters. The fact that teachers are leaving the profession in droves during their first 5 years tends to show our frustration with the gap.On the other hand .... I didn't know it even snowed in New Mexico!!!! Is that rare? I've been itching to vacation in Taos -- have never been there and would love to see it. Are you near Taos?I bet it's beautiful in the snow.Katharine in N. Welcome Scott! I'm originally from Tx and no matter how many times anyone says different, I am and will forever be a Txn Gal!! =) Anyways, it was Sunday (here in NM) and it was in the 70's. That night the clouds were here, temps dropped into the 30's and the snow started. We woke up Monday to snow on the ground, not much but a nice dusting. School was cancelled so the kids had a snow day. I (along with a few other parents) are convinced however it wasn't needed, the superintendant and/or teachers just wanted a 3 day weekend. Ha...!! That's prolly true though seeing as how temps went back up, only to go down again Wednesday night and we had snow yet again. Yesterday snow on the ground, snow still falling...no school delays and/or closures. Go figure. And we had more snow then we had on Monday..![]()
