Ok, let's see about that. Note that there were
literally decades where I said I believed in all forms
of alternative medicine save and except that
*homeopathy* B******* which was obviously patently
*ridiculous!* But I was converted by a genius
homeopath and a miracle cure, and consequently have
spent the last eleven years studying. So here we go:

Homeopathy as codified into a system of medical
philosophy and clinical practice by Samuel Hahnemann
in the late 1700's is based on the Law of Similars,
which loosely stated means that that what a substance
can create it cures. Which is opposite of allopathic
medicine. This is a Law he noticed, not invented,
that was noticed by others as far back as written
history goes. Paracelsus was probably the first
homeopath, but there was no codified system of
Homeopathy until Hahnemann's work. He coined the name
based on Homeo (greek for similar) and Pathos (greek
for suffering).

Homeopathy:
Example 1 - To resolve a fever, give a substance that
CREATES a fever in a HEALTHY person.
Example 2 - To resolve vomiting, give a substance that
CREATES vomiting in a HEALTHY person. So in that
case, Ipicac prepared in a homeopathic manner (diluted
and succussed) is a common remedy, if the rest of the
symptom picture fits that particular individual with
the vomiting. Otherwise, there are literally hundreds
of remedies that can resolve vomiting if the rest of
the picture fits, which it MUST or the remedy won't
work.

Allopathic medicine:
Example 1 - To reduce a fever give a substance that
counteracts a fever in a sick person.
Example 2 - To stop vomiting, give a substance that
stops vomiting in a sick person.

There are many other "laws" in homeopathy, but that
Law of Similars (a/k/a Like Cures Like) is the
fundamental one, that plus the Law of the Minimum Dose
= give the absolute smallest dose of a substance
(that's ONE substance ONLY) that will have a effect
upon the Vital Force of the person. And give ONLY ONE
substance at a time, the one substance that fits the
"totality" (ALL the important symptoms) of a case.

Minimum dose is almost always way below a measurable
or pharmaceutically active dose. So it might be
smaller than one drop in a swimming pool! Oh yeah.
It's true!

Those laws:
Law of Similars (Like Cures Like)
Law of the Minimum Dose
Single Remedy

are the ones that make the allopaths and other folk
who fancy themselves scientists laugh and point. But
if they were really scientists, they would not
overlook studies and other evidence of the efficacy of
homeoapthy. But it's long been the case that science
and society ignores that which challenges the status
quo of preconceived notions. Like the Pope told
Newton, "you can believe it, just don't SAY it!"

BTW just for your fun and interest, the AMA was
started as a guild specifically to stamp out
homeopathy. MDs could not join the AMA if they
"consorted" with homeopaths! Unfortunately they won.
So we in the USA where homeopathy was the leading form
of medicine where it was the most advanced in the
world are behind most all other areas in the world
where it was and is practiced. Thank heavens for
India, where it has grown and flourished since shortly
after Hahnemann's time, or it might have been lost all
together!

For ALL things homeopathy, especially if one is a
homeopath. (Otherwise it can seem so packed with info
it's hard to discern what would be helpful):
www.homeopathyhome.com

For books:
www.minimum.com

For a school:
www.homeopathyschool.com
www.dynamis.edu

For software and articles and MP3 seminars:
www.wholehealthnow.com

For a good intro for free:
http://www.bookonhealing.com/Introduction.htm
the main site of the author Jacob Mirman
www.demystify.com
A brilliant intro, that book, but the Lansky book is
much better. And I think it's only $14 ish, and a
steal at that!

See, in hx we would not make a differentiation between
all those things. We would, however, make a
differentiation between the PEOPLE who exhibited the
symptom complex that western medicine has named all
those things.

For example: lets say there's two people diagnosed
with OCD by the MD. One cuts and has early morning
diarrhea, but feels much better in the cold sea air.
The other hand-washes all the time, dresses in only
purple, feels much better after eating hot food and
craves bananas.

For allopathic (std western) medicine, if each person
had a diagnosis of OCD, the rest of the symptoms would
not make a difference. They would probably receive
the same drug, whichever was new and pushed by the rep
that month, and be on it so long as they could
tolerate it and any side-effects. Plus the person
with the diarrhea would probably get a prescription
for that too. But with homeopathy, each person would
certainly get a completely different remedy, ONE
remedy ONLY that fit ALL of those symptoms and any
other deemed important to the case by the homeopath.

You are NOT alone in those feelings, I assure you.
Acupuncture needles are single-use and thin as a hair
these days. And a treatment may not even be felt.
But it's a definite advantage to be a homeopath
dispensing little sugar pills! ;-))) I too have a
needle aversion due to many years of being practiced
upon by amateurs (fellow students)!

> Don't worry about the use of the word "cure". I

Yeah, but many people don't. Often folks don't think
about the subconscious meanings of the words they use.
As an alternative practitioner I try to be very
cognizant of such things. That and I cannot use the
terms that are reserved by statue to the MDs in some
cases. Yes, you heard right. I cannot use certain
words in my conversation because they are reserved to
MDs by law and if I do, I place myself in jeopardy of
being accused of practicing medicine.

That's wonderful.

That's interesting. Wonder what's in it?

All good things I am sure.

I hope you continue to progress on the way towards
healing and joy.

Always!

To you too! And should you decide you want to try
once again to find support or treatment in a medical
model, I am happy to help you find someone.
