I make it a point to not be in an group that is strictly "on topic."
The one time I was I had a nasty experience (The short version was
that someones bad news was on topic, but my news of getting married
was off topic). I like groups with a "theme" but that allows lots of
chatter as well.

I've insulted people before. I've also been insulted before. It pays
to rmember that through internet messages the simple nuance in a tone
of voice can't be heard to help get the "attitude" that something
might be being said in.

I listen to what everyone says, but hardly ever ask the second party
if its true. This has never really been the case as the "owner/mod"
of my groups though. I've only ever had one incident where other
memebers said soemthign bad about another, but it was something I
agreed with, and the member in question left without me having to take
any action.
