I know this is not the usual Liberal Agenda- but I don't think there is anything wrong with youngsters being tapped for service to their country for a year or two. It doesn't necessarily have to be military service. There are plenty of things in this country that need bodies and energy to right.

I had been thinking on the matter of the idea of certain countries
requiring military service for a period of time after finishing school
and before University. I wonder does it help with feeling a
responsibility or giving back to the country? Does it help with the
maturity process?
I know here in the USA I think that would be a hard sell to institute
military service. I think it would be a good idea myself but it doesn't
mean everyone would or should have to serve in major conflicts. I know
I couldn't go to Iraq or Afghanistan or somewhere like that. I don't
have it in me to kill another person I don't think no matter what the
circumstance.

There is no Perfect on this side of the great divide and, perhaps, not on the other. Perfect cannot grow; perfect can only decay.
